Insects that bite, sting and can damage your home are the most important bugs to be able to identify. In southeastern Texas, fire ants are a common nuisance for many people. While these ants may be small – only 1/8″ to 1/4″ long, they pack a powerful sting. Accidentally stepping on their hills can cause them to literally swarm you all the while stinging you. Their sting, which feels like fire causes raised, itchy bumps which can easily become infected.

So, now that you know what these vicious ants can do to you, you probably want to know how to get rid of them. The bad news is that there is currently no known way to eradicate these ants once they are established. You can however attempt to control them. Applying a broadcast bait is one of the first steps. Treating each ant mound that you can find should be one of your next steps. Continuing to bait and treat on a regular basis will keep the fire ants at bay. It is however a long term process, one that may be best handled by the professionals.
